The Law Society annual awards are a prestigious event to photograph, so I was very pleased to be shooting them this year. They took place at the Hilton Park Lane, a venue I’m familiar with. As a London event photographer it’s somewhere I get to shoot at fairly regularly.

The night started with a drinks reception and then into the main ballroom for a sit down meal with awards. There were some familiar faces there including Jack Straw, as well as some more famous within the law fraternity itself. I used the ambient light to keep the atmosphere, but used just a little bit of flash to clean up people’s faces. I prefer to be discreet for a lot of the shots at an event like this, as a result I’m reluctant to use too much flash, so a mix worked well. The night drew to a close with a band and some dancing where it was less important I was discreet and I got some great shots of guests enjoying themselves.

Below are just a few shots from the night.
